Zodiac Five Speed Transmissions These high quality 5 speed transmissions feature the late type"low Noise" gears and shafts. Gears and shafts are machined from ultra strong 20ChMnT High stress gear steel. This steel has superior strength over any other gear steel. Gears and shafts are tempered and stress released to a core hardness of 35 to 45 Rockwell and have a surface hardness of 58-60 Rockwell. All gears are lapped for smooth low noise operation. These gears and shafts are of such high quality they feature a 5 year or 10,000km warranty. Other features are Alutec billet trap door, Sputhe Ratchet, SKF and FAG bearings. Softail transmissions are assembled in our reinforced and low priced Softail housing. To offer you the choice of final belt or chain drive, sprockets and pullys are not included, these are offered separately. Zodiac Six Speed Overdrive Transmission This six speed Overdrive transmission is the latest in torque multiplication technology and in fact is the strongest and most reliable available to date. Zodiac based the Six Speed Overdrive on their race proven 5 speed design. Unlike your stock transmission, which has a 1:1 ratio in top gear, this transmission gives you a 1: 086 gear ratio is 6th. This means less vibration to ride at the same speed, resulting in less vibration, less wear and better fuel economy. The Zodiac 6 speed features an improved shift system over the stock 5 speed. The shift is not a casting, but a CNC produced precision part. The drum fork pin grooves have more exact shifts, the plunger/compression spring bearings have been increased 100% for improved radial loading characteristics. The gears are as wide as your stock 5 speed with an added beefy 6th gear for the mainshaft and a one piece 6th gear countershaft unit. The transmission comes with a billet aluminium trap door. The complete 6 speed kits are available for 1985 thru 1999 5 speed Softails. Zodiac 6 Speed Conversion The biggest disadvantage of the stock 5 speed transmission might be the 1 to 1 gear ratio in 5th gear, resulting in high engine RPM when cruising at high speed. OK, you can reduce this by changing the final drive ratio, but this will also reduce acceleration. With the new Zodiac 6 speed, you have the 1 to 1 ratio in 5th, but 1 to 0.86 ratio in 6th , reducing engine by as much as 14%. There are other 6 speed conversions on the market, but none are as economically priced nor have they the quality in engineering in CAD/CAM design as the Zodiac 6 speed. These precision parts are CNC manufactured by one of the worlds leading automotive transmission factories. The material used for the gears and shafts is High Stressed 20CrMnT gear steel, tempered and stress released to a core hardness of 35 to 45 Rockwell and surface hardness of 58-60 Rockwell. to a stock 80" or a big inch S&S 124" SSW+ motor, the choice
is yours. Forged gears are standard width for performance & strength.
Transmission kit includes, Jims standard width forged clean cut gear set,
including a close ratio 1st gear set, black powder coat case, chrome top
& side covers, chrome hardware, chrome 7075T6 trap door, billet pillow
blocks, bottled transmission oil & instructions.
